Canadian pianistĀ Kevin ChenĀ has quickly established himself as one of the most distinctive voices of his generation, praised for his poetic sensitivity, natural eloquence, and remarkable technical command.
Most recently, inĀ October 2025, Kevin won theĀ Second PrizeĀ at the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano CompetitionĀ in Warsaw. His decision to perform the complete set of Chopin Ćtudes Op. 10 in the second stage drew wide attention and praise, with Polish critics calling his interpretation āa complete musical story, not a show of virtuosity.ā
He is also theĀ First Prize winnerĀ of theĀ Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master CompetitionĀ (Tel Aviv 2023), the Concours de GenĆØveĀ (2022), theĀ Franz Liszt International Piano CompetitionĀ (Budapest 2021), theĀ Hilton Head International Piano CompetitionĀ (2020), and theĀ International Piano-e-CompetitionĀ (Minneapolis 2019). His artistic maturity and individuality have been widely recognized by audiences and juries alike.
Kevin has appeared with major orchestras including theĀ Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra,Ā Orchestre de la Suisse Romande,Ā Taipei Symphony Orchestra,Ā Hungarian National Orchestra,Ā Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, andĀ Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been featured at international festivals such asĀ La Roque dāAnthĆ©ron,Ā Chopin and His EuropeĀ (Warsaw), andĀ Duszniki-Zdrój, and has performed in leading venues includingĀ Carnegie HallĀ (New York),Ā Berlin Philharmonie,Ā Munich Prinzregententheater,Ā St. Johnās Smith SquareĀ (London), and the Taipei National Concert Hall.
Born inĀ Edmonton, Kevin began piano studies at the age of five and soon attracted national attention, winning first place at the Canadian Music CompetitionĀ at eight. He was later named one of theĀ CBCās āTop 30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30āĀ and one ofĀ Macleanās magazineās ā100 Remarkable Canadians.ā
He currently studies at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Professor Arie Vardi.
